How do I reset my Mac password?Updated 3 months ago
If you have forgotten your Mac password, several solutions are available depending on your situation.
Option 1: Reset vie your Apple ID
If your Mac is linked to an Apple ID, you can reset your password directly from the login screen. After several incorrect attempts, a message will offer you the option to reset your password via your Apple ID.
Option 2: Use macOS Recovery Mode
1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Restart it in recovery mode:
- Apple silicon Mac (M1, M2, M3...): hold down the power button until the startup options appear.
- Intel Mac: hold down the Cmd + R keys at startup.
3. Select Utilities > Terminal.
4. Type the command resetpassword and follow the instructions.
Option 3: Contact Apple Support
If the options above do not work, contact Apple Support directly at: https://support.apple.com/en-us/106932?choose-your-country-or-region=united-states.
Important: If the Mac is protected by iCloud Activation Lock, you will need to sign in with the Apple ID associated with the device. If you purchased your Mac on Back Market Pro and are experiencing this issue, please contact our customer service team.
